York University Campus Life

The main campus at York University is located in the village of Heslington, about two miles to the southeast of York city centre. The campus is situated on 200 acres of beautifully-landscaped parkland, where the colleges are close-knit and wildlife abounds.

Student facilities and services, including welfare and support, at York University campus are superb, while the York University Students' Union is the focus of student social life, with a number of clubs and societies, bars and shops.

York City

York is characterized by a rich history and world class attractions, with the stunning York Minster, the largest medieval cathedral in Europe, the centerpiece. Other major attractions include the Jorvik Viking Centre and the interesting York Castle Museum.

Owing to the burgeoning York University student population, York has a lively cafe-bar and restaurant scene and has numerous pubs and clubs to boot. The city is also home to many annual festivals and is well connected by road and rail.

Student Loans

York University is allowed to charge new, full-time students up to £3,000 a year for tuition fees from September 2006. Many students will apply for a student loan to cover their tuition fees and day to day living costs. Student loans are the best option for borrowing money for college as interest rates are traditionally low and repayments don't start until graduated students are in work and are earning over £15,000.
