University of Glamorgan

The University of Glamorgan is located in Treforest, near Pontypridd, South Wales, and has a history in learning and teaching dating back to 1913. Receiving university status in the early 1990s, the University of Glamorgan today has an excellent academic record and boasts over 21,000 students.

A large proportion of students at Glamorgan University are on campus and many come from overseas, while numerous viable courses are offered for full- and part-time undergraduates, as well as for postgraduates.

There are eight schools at the university and several departments. The various schools include the:

 • Centre for Lifelong Learning (Combined Studies Unit Law School)
 • School of Applied Sciences
 • School of Care Sciences
 • School of Computing
 • School of Electronics
 • School of Humanities and Social Sciences
 • School of Technology

University of Glamorgan Campus Life

The single campus at the University of Glamorgan is close to the city of Pontypridd and it has a modern design and exceptional student facilities and services. Sports and leisure feature heavily at the campus, with access to rugby, football, golf, canoeing and karate at the highest levels. There is always lots going on at the University of Glamorgan Union.

Accommodation-wise, well-equipped and secure halls of residence are located on-ampus and private accommodation can also be had nearby. The University of Glamorgan is well connected to the outside world, with Pontypridd rail station nearby and Cardiff International Airport a short drive away.

The town of Pontypridd

Pontypridd is a busy market town near the capital, Cardiff, and is located amid some of the country’s finest countryside. There are plenty of intriguing cafes and restaurants here and more than enough pubs to keep one busy for the weekend. An impressive landmark in the centre of town is Ynysangharad Park, which features Wales’ biggest outdoor swimming pool and is ideal in the summer.

Nearby are the majestic peaks of the Brecon Beacons National Park, while the Glamorgan Heritage Coast and the Gower Peninsula boast some dazzling beaches with bubbling surf.

Student Loans

The University of Glamorgan is allowed to charge new, full-time students up to £3,000 a year for tuition fees from September 2006. Many students will apply for a student loan to cover their tuition fees and day to day living costs. Student loans are the best option for borrowing money for college as interest rates are traditionally low and repayments don't start until graduated students are in work and are earning over £15,000.
