Loughborough University

Loughborough University has routes stretching back to the early 1900s and is particularly revered for its research prowess. Loughborough University received university status in 1966 and today boasts over 16,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students and 3,000 staff; making it one of the largest learning institutions in the UK.

Loughborough University has received many accolades, such as the coveted Queen's Anniversary Prizes for Higher and Further Education in many areas, including aeronautical and automotive industries, laser technologies and sports research. In addition, Built Environment, Sports Science and Social Science have strong research bases at Loughborough University.

In all, Loughborough University has 24 academic departments and over 30 Research Institutes and Centres for its 16,000 students under three schools of faculty.

Loughborough University Campus Life

Loughborough University campus is located just outside Loughborough on an attractive 400-acre site. Campus facilities are outstanding and include halls of residence accommodation for more than 5,000 students and excellent student welfare support.

Other campus facilities at Loughborough University include: a major library and information technology network, lecture theatres, an arts centre, theatres, the superb Loughborough Students Union and a range of shops, banks, restaurants and bars.

In addition, the Loughborough University has outstanding sports facilities at its athletics centres. Options include sports halls, astroturf pitches, a 50-metre swimming pool, tennis, badminton, squash, and netball courts, and a quality fitness centre.

The city of Loughborough

Loughborough is well situated in the heart of England near the M1 motorway and not far from Birmingham International Airport (BHX). It is also on the main north–south rail line.

The town is loaded with intriguing shops, cafes and pubs and exudes youthfulness owing to Loughborough University. The town centre is easily explored on foot and features a number of interesting attractions, including The Old Rectory Museum and the lofty Carillon Tower; the latter of which provides amazing views over the city and surrounding countryside.

Student Loans

Loughborough University is allowed to charge new, full-time students up to £3,000 a year for tuition fees from September 2006. Many students will apply for a student loan to cover their tuition fees and day to day living costs. Student loans are the best option for borrowing money for college as interest rates are traditionally low and repayments don't start until graduated students are in work and are earning over £15,000.
